Review of effects of spinal manipulative therapy on neurological symptoms

The  Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies published by Elsevier has accepted for publication our article "Review of the effect of spinal manipulation on neurological symptoms".

This article is the result of the hard work of the staff of the Elita Rehabilitation Center (Kozyavkin Medical Group) Anna Kushnir, Bohdana Fedchyshyn, and Oleg Kachmar.

The review was aimed at summarizing the existing literature on the effect of various spinal manipulation techniques on neurological symptoms and the quality of life of patients. The authors analyzed publications in English for the period from January 2000 to April 2020, and searched four databases: PubMed, Google Scholar, PEDro, and Index to Chiropractic Literature.

A detailed analysis of 35 articles that met the inclusion criteria showed that spinal manipulation can have a positive effect on muscle spasticity and stiffness, motor and autonomic functions, and balance, but the number and quality of these studies are still insufficient. There is also a positive effect of spinal manipulation on the quality of life of people with spinal pain, balance disorders, and cerebral palsy.
